Enforcement Notices Issued– Blackwood Lane

I am pleased to be able to inform residents that Fingal County Council has issued Enforcement Notices
on the owners of the land at Blackwood Lane.

There was genuine concern amongst many residents of Portmarnock and Malahide in relation to the
illegal traveller encampment and the hundreds that were gathering for what was being called a
religious festival.

In a similar incident in Cork on Thursday night last forty families moved into a site in Cork and the
owners of the land obtained an injunction to have them removed the following day.
It is disappointing that the landowners of the site in Blackwood Lane did not follow the same route
as the Cork landowners and this problem could have been resolved within 72 hours of the travellers
arriving for the religious event.

Since Monday night last I had much interaction with concerned residents, Council Officials and An
Garda Siochana and compliment all involved in taking the steps required to bring this situation to a
hopefully swift conclusion.

I am aware that a huge effort has been put into this matter by the Chief Executive and the staff at Fingal
and would thank them for their attention to this problem.

I will continue to liaise with Fingal County Council until this is resolved and am confident that if the
owners do not act upon the Enforcement Notice, Fingal County Council will seriously examine the
option of taking court proceedings to resolve this matter.

Finally if there are any other matters that are of concern to residents or if you wish me to make
representations on your behalf do not hesitate to contact me.
