Addressing Bullying In Our Schools
In 2017 I secured funding from Fingal County Council for the Anti Bullying Institute to launch a pilot programme into seven schools in the Fingal
The ABI Anti Bullying Wellbeing Programme for primary schools teaches children how to make correct behavioral choices. When the pilot programme finished there were still 17 primary schools in Fingal wishing to avail of the programme. The funding shortfall was €15,000 and I was delighted to organise a fund raising drive amongst businesses in the area to secure the money needed
As a result of this fund raising all 17 schools have completed this programme. These included Malahide Educate Together National School, St Marnocks National School Portmarnock, Howth National School and St Nicolas of Myra National School Kinsealy.
Having visited a school that participated in the pilot programme and seeing first hand how it contributed to reducing bullying and how it taught children the importance of respect at a young age, I knew the importance of the remaining schools being afforded the opportunity to participate. I would like to acknowledge the kind contributions from businesses in Fingal whom made this possible and know that we have made a serious contribution to the well being of our young people.
